Ana Maria Rodriguez:
A Principled, Independent Voice for South Florida
Ana Maria Rodriguez is running for re-election to the Florida State Senate.
After serving one term in the Florida House of Representatives from 2018 to 2020, she successfully ran for the Florida Senate, where she has built a strong record focused on improving quality of life for South Florida families, seniors, homeowners, small businesses, and working residents. She was also elected by her peers to serve as Chair of the Miami-Dade Legislative Delegation, a leadership role she continues to hold today.
Born in Miami to Cuban parents, Ana Maria understands the value of opportunity, hard work, safe communities, and a government that respects the people it serves. Her public service has been guided by a simple priority: help residents keep more of what they earn and make South Florida a more affordable place to live, work, raise a family, and retire.
As a state legislator, Ana Maria has worked on issues that directly affect household budgets. She has supported keeping taxes low, reducing unnecessary burdens on small businesses, and strengthening Florida’s economy so employers can create good-paying jobs.
Ana Maria is especially focused on the affordability crisis facing South Florida. Rising costs are putting pressure on families, seniors, renters, homeowners, and small businesses – she is committed to cutting taxes, opposing unnecessary cost increases, expanding access to affordable and workforce housing, and fighting for real solutions to reduce homeowners’ insurance premiums.
As the mother of school-age children, Ana Maria knows that strong schools are essential to strong communities. She has supported record funding for Florida’s public school system, as well as policies that empower parents to make the best decisions for their children’s education.
She has spent her career advocating on behalf of the people of South Florida, both as a professional and as a public servant. Prior to being elected to the State House, she served on the Doral City Council for eight years and previously worked as the Director of Government and Community Relations for Baptist Health. Currently, she serves as Vice President of the MIAMI Association of REALTORS®, where she advocates for policies that increase homeownership, make housing more affordable, and strengthen community resilience.
In her spare time, Ana Maria is active in the South Florida community. She has served on the Florida International University President’s Council, as the Honorary Chair of the Autism Speaks Miami Walk, and as a board member for multiple community and philanthropic organizations, including the Coral Gables Community Foundation, the City of Doral Parks & Police 4 Kids advisory board, and the Miami Lighthouse for the Blind organization’s Young Professionals of the Lighthouse Group.
Ana Maria is a proud Miami native. She attended St. Theresa Catholic School, graduated from Our Lady of Lourdes Academy, earned a B.S. in Communications from Florida International University, and earned an M.S. in Leadership from the Huizenga School of Business at Nova Southeastern University. Her husband, Dr. Clemente Canabal, is a native of Cartagena, Colombia. They live in Miami-Dade County with their two sons, Hermes and Eros.
